LOWEST HANGING FRUIT

2018

Mixed media installation (Pencil on brown cotton, beeswax, wire & resin hands)

5.5ft H x 3ft W

Shown at solo exhibition 'IMPRINT' (2019),

Loftt Gallery, Port of Spain

Conceptualised in response to an article on the ‘Postcolonial diet’ in the Caribbean, this piece is intended to question how our everyday choices may be informed by our history. The layers of the garment represent periods of time, with the subject seen lifting the upper layer (the present) to reveal the past; the two coexisting and eternally interconnected. In addition to other questions, the viewer may be prompted to consider the extent to which our choices are born of desire or rather of conditioning.
